SPIRITUAL MATURITY.

HAPPY FATHER’S DAY

SERIES: “I’M STEPPING INTO ALL THAT GOD HAS FOR ME!”

SUBJECT: “SPIRITUAL MATURITY”

Scripture: 1 Corinthians 13:11 King James Version

When I was a child, I spake as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child: but when I became a man, I put away childish things.

At some point we were all children in Christ. Eager to learn, eager to obey, eager to please. But we were children.

We talked like we were children in Christ because we had no knowledge or real understanding of Christ, or the Word, Or His principles. So, we spoke as children speak when they are unsure. I think God will or I’m not sure if He’s going to do it and maybe my prayers will be answered.

We also understood as children do. Reading the word of God and not fully interpreting it’s meaning. No, not intentionally doing it. We just didn’t understand. Sometimes even after reading it over and over again and asking others to help with the interpretation.

We thought like a child. Our minds were all over the place, not focused on the voice of God. Easily pulled of course and on to something else. Not able to finish our first task before we were starting another one.

When I became a man speaks to becoming the person that you are right now in Christ. We aren’t children anymore. We’re grown. We take offense and use the word grown when we feel challenged in some way about our age or maturity. Especially when we want people to know; I’m not that person anymore. I’ve grown up. Are you growing up in Christ?

I put away childish things. Um, now here’s food for thought. Have we put away childish things? Are we mature in Christ? Do we understand what we have read? Better yet; are we even reading our word to get an understanding of it? or are we reading it; just to say we read it? Only you know if you’ve put away childish things. Is Sunday the only time that you focus on your spiritual growth and maturity?

As adults in Christ it’s time for us to put away childish things. At what point do you take responsibility for your Spiritual Maturity. Some of us are so consumed with making sure our family is picture perfect to people on the outside looking in. When are we going to set a climate in our homes for spiritual growth and maturity?

Kids have been out of school for months now. Have you incorporated prayer and reading a scripture to them daily? What good is it for me to wear my child’s number at a sporting event and have them practice that sport 7 days a week; but not teach and train them in the principles of God the same way we push that sport. It doesn’t make any sense, yet we are doing it. When is the last time you asked your spouse or significant other to pray with you? Study with you? Fast with you?

Spiritual Maturity requires us to be accountable for ourselves, our families, and our communities.

You can still get where you need to be in Christ. Yesterday is gone; choose today as your starting point to move forward!
